Early training in icon painting on the island of Crete, coupled with his
stay and study in Venice led EL Greco to a mystic exhuberant style of

Known as Domenikos Theotokopoulos, he moved to Toledo, Spain to continue
his religious paintings, and natural landscapes.

MUSICAL THEATER is alive and well. At the recent NAMT (NATIONAL ALLIANCE FOR MUSICAL THEATER) festival, kATHY EVANS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR presented 8 stage readings of new works.My favorites - included: "It Shoulda Been You",about getting married to the other guy with a SURPRISE twist. "Factory Girls" a historial story of 1843 set in the fabric mills of Lowell, Massachusetts with a lead singer, Carrie Manalatos, and "Iron Curtain", a spoof kidnapping of two Broadway writers forced to write a musical for Russia. Someone should write a musical called "8 Musicals in Two Days".

CLIF MALONEY died on a mountaintop in China.Our sympathy for his wife,Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney (Dem.NY) and his daughters Virginia and Christina who spoke warmly about their father. PRESIDENT BILL CLINTON attended. A friend,who sang and played piano at the church was CAROLE KING. The song was "So Far Away". Mrs. Maloney had recently decided not to run for the Senate.

Executive Director Issac Robert Hurwitz said "we have amazing 30 shows including some in foreign languages". Sharon Fallon, chair of the Board of Directors said "this is the best year for the Festival".

My favorite was 'ANJOU'-A Tale of Horror in Spanish.The Executive producer Ricardo Carvajal presented a very impressive musical in Spanish. The story is true,all about death. Catalina d'Medici, queen of France creates a blood bath of murder in order that her son Henry d'Anjou become King. Inviting Protestants to the wedding for her Catholic daughter, she has some 6,000 murdered in cold blood. The music is brilliant, filled with passion that exceeds any expectations. Kudos - should be on Broadway.

The amazing match was sponsored by the wonderful champagne Veuve Cliquot. It was a beautiful day for lunch outdoors under the tent, and tea later in the afternoon. Prince Harry was gallant on his horses as he led his team to victory. Like his brother, he has followed in his father's footsteps by becoming a proficient amateur polo player.
Founded in 2006, Sentebale's mission is to transform the lives of Lesotho's orphans and vulnerable children. The charity was founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso from the Lesotho Royal Family. For more info, visit www.sentebale.org

SIR ELTON JOHN, was the recipient of the coveted Drama League Award for "Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theater". Held at the Marriott Marquis. more than 1,000 guests attended the luncheon which benefits the educational programs of the Drama League Directors Project. This amazing program was started by Julia Hansen twenty-five years ago.
At a party in her home, the night before, JEREMY IRONSsaid he was
looking forward to MCing the marvelous event which included Broadway stars Angela
Landsbury who received an award for "Unique Contribution to the Theater".

Other distinguished recepients included ARTHUR LAURENTS, for excellence in directing
Herbert Blodgett - 75th Anniversary Leadership Award.

BILLY ELLIOT, won as best musical, music written by SIR ELTON JOHN, and produced by
SALLY GREENE. During his speech he honored the "team effort", as a joyous experience saying "BILLY ELLIOT' is "one of the joys of my life". Also he said
"it aint successful, unless it's successful on Broadway". Admitting his age,
his advice to everyone was "keep working".

THE INNER CIRCLE:
CAROLINE KENNEDY graced the stage at the annual INNER CIRCLE musical spoof about
MAYOR MICHAEL BLOOMBERG. This year's musical was entitled "Terms of Endurement".
Writing Chairman - Larry Sutton and his staff wrote satire lyrics - "so long Mike,
time to make room for younger folks".and "he'll never leave, he changed the law so there would never be another" The fun included - "Octomom, you're really
on quite a roll, You could use a lesson in birth control." Gabe Pressman played
a reporter.Hillary Clinton was played by Mary Alice Williams.Kathy Beaver was
the musical director and Randy Jones illustrated the book. Then it was the Mayor's
turn to present his musical based on "The Little Mermaid". Flying into the Hudson
river and running for Mayor underwater - "Brilliant" (he is a great actor too

On Earth Day, saw "Swimming with the Polar Bears", a one man show, by Mel England, produced by Paul Davidovac and sponsored by The Climate Project" founded by Nobel Laureate, Vice President AL GORE at info@theclimateproject.org, and ORIGINOIL, a breakthrough technology to transform algae into oil.
